Landis Construction joined Congressman Troy Carter and community partners on March 12 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Algiers Indoor Covered Swimming Facility.
The facility, which is in Algiers’ Cut-Off neighborhood, will be a year-round resource for water safety instruction, water aerobics for adults and seniors, and recreational swimming for all ages. Funding for the project was made possible by federal appropriations previously secured by Congressman Carter. The swimming facility was selected as a priority project after conducting comprehensive outreach to local groups and stakeholders.
In his remarks at the groundbreaking, Congressman Carter noted he used to swim in the Mississippi River because no swimming facilities were available for kids.
“The Algiers Indoor Covered Swimming Facility is not just another building project; it symbolizes hope and progress for the residents of the Cut-Off,” Carter said. “Algiers deserves access to the same recreation facilities and quality infrastructure as any other community, and this is a down payment on that commitment.”
Landis is constructing the pool in partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, the Algiers Development District, and Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects.
