The replacement of the Iberville housing project inched closer on Monday, as city officials and developers celebrated the completion of a 76-unit, mixed-income apartment complex on St. Louis Street that was once the site of an abandoned grocery store.

The first phase of the “City Square 162” apartment complex includes a mix of 46 market-rate apartments and another 30 for tenants receiving assistance through the Housing Authority of New Orleans.

The project received $1.5 million from the city and $1.7 million in public infrastructure dollars, the release said. The project also benefited from a payment in lieu of taxes arrangement approved by the Industrial Development Board.

McCormack Baron Management is the property manager for the new development. Architectural services were provided by HCI Architecture, and engineering services were provided by Schrenk Endom & Flanagan. Landis Construction was the general contractor.

City Square 162 is part of a redevelopment and revitalization plan that began with Bienville Basin, a mixed-income, mixed-use community built by HRI Properties on the site of the former Iberville Public Housing Development.
