Construction on the 714 Canal St. mixed-use renovation project is anticipated to be completed by year-end, with full operation expected by early 2024, according to JECohen Principal and Chief Investment Officer Jarrett Cohen. Cohen’s update on 714 Canal Street was featured in an article in the “What’s Up Downtown Newsletter” by the New Orleans Downtown Development District.

Cohen reports that IT’Sugar, which has 120 locations nationwide, will occupy ground-floor retail, while a boutique hotel leased by Roami will occupy upper floors. The renovation and reimagined building will also include a restoration of the building’s original ornamental ceiling and an innovative, lightwell architectural feature that serves as an internal patio with decking.

“From the beginning of this endeavor, we aimed to pay homage to the building’s original aesthetics while modernizing the interior space,” Cohen said. “The synergy between historical charm and building quality positions this property as a prime location that will truly enhance the corridor.”

Several companies have contributed to the 714 Canal renovation project, including Trapolin-Peer Architects, Fricker Historic Preservation Services, Landis ConstructionSynergy MEP Consulting Engineers, John C. Bose Consulting Engineer, as well as finance partners Home Bank and RiseImpact.
