In 2014, Landis completed the renovation and adaptive reuse of the historic, 17-story building located at 1501 Canal Street into residential apartments for low-income seniors. As a design-build project, Landis took the existing historic shell and transformed it into a home for many elderly residents. The building features a steel structure and enamel-coated steel curtain wall exterior, which allows for open, flexible interior space with minimal interior columns. The entire curtain wall required a complete replacement to match the original details. The renovated building was as beautiful as it was useful, housing 112 apartments complete with two activity rooms, a community area, a workout center, a beauty salon, and first-floor retail space.
From post-bid construction analysis through final punchlist completion, Landis worked diligently with our firm to build an exemplary new school, one which impressed the client enough to become the RSD’s prototype design for future elementary schools. Based on working with Landis Construction over several decades, I do not hesitate to highly recommend Landis for your upcoming construction projects.
