Landis finished Link Restaurant Group’s Peche Seafood Grill restaurant in 2013, marking the first completed phase of the 800 Magazine Street historic restoration project. Located in the Warehouse district, the historic building was originally used as a livery and funeral home in the 1840s and is recognized for witnessing the embalmment of President Jefferson Davis. Landis overcame several challenges with the former parking garage, including an unlevel floor and significant termite damage and significant structural repairs, including the shoring and leveling of the upper floors and the replacement of damaged structural members. The 5,000 square foot seafood restaurant was eligible to receive state and federal tax credits, affording the thoughtful, modern design within the exposed timber structure. Towering cypress doors open into the bar under the intricately reconstructed Italianate gallery – the main focal point of the building. The restaurant boasts a custom-designed open-flame wood-burning grill, constructed out of volcanic ash material known as Isokern, and 100% of the building’s original masonry.
