This 28-month project included complete interior and exterior renovation of the nearly 44,000 square foot building. On the exterior, the limestone was cleaned to reveal the original buff color of the material, and the ornamental window grilles and frames were restored to their original silver color. The integration of modern day roofing, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems brought the building up to current code requirements. The interior Italian marble, found throughout the first and second floor lobby spaces, and even bathroom partitions, was refinished and repaired. All of the original light fixtures, historical paneling, millwork, and original plaster walls was preserved and rehabilitated. By staying true to the property’s original design, Landis was able to transform the building into a structural “time capsule,” where even the smallest features were made to reflect the detailing used in the 1930s.

From post-bid construction analysis through final punchlist completion, Landis worked diligently with our firm to build an exemplary new school, one which impressed the client enough to become the RSD’s prototype design for future elementary schools. Based on working with Landis Construction over several decades, I do not hesitate to highly recommend Landis for your upcoming construction projects.
