Landis joined Mayor LaToya Cantrell and project partners to celebrate the grand opening of City Square 162 - a new affordable housing development project in the Treme neighborhood - in April 2022. Located on the site of a former Winn-Dixie, the newly-completed building offers 76 one- and two-bedroom units, 15 of which are public housing, and 15 are Section 8-assisted apartments subsidized by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The remaining 46 apartments are unsubsidized and are rented at market rates.
The units have energy-efficient appliances, high-speed internet and cable access, a news release said. The community also a fitness facility, a multi-purpose community/meeting room with a business area, and a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly greenway along North Villere Street that connects the Lafitte Greenway to the site and to the adjacent Bienville Basin community.
City Square 162 is part of a redevelopment and revitalization plan that began with Bienville Basin, a mixed-income, mixed-use community built by HRI Properties on the site of the former Iberville Public Housing Development.
